What GreenBin will offer ?
        The explanation of the features:

·         Total Containment
 The flagship hopper design keeps waste contained while avoiding pests to gain access, prevents waste overflow and reduces the amount of windblown litter


·      No visible waste, No pest
The garbage container is designed in such way to avoid any spillage around the container. This will keep unwanted animals out of the garbage. In addition to that, there will be no odor and flies which are disease-ridden will no longer be attracted to the garbage.

·      Cleaner and Safer Public Space
There will be no garbage spillage; therefore the container will no longer attract stray dogs or cats. Moreover, there will be no exposed plastic bottles as breeding ground for dangerous mosquitoes such as Aedes that can harm human with Zika Virus and Dengue. 

·       Smart Connected
GreenBin is an 'Internet of Things' based product. It is range sensor that is used to detect the level of the bin and it is able to send and receive data from the bin to the centralize monitoring system. The monitoring system will schedule the garbage collection from these data.


·         Reduced collection cost
    The Centralized Monitoring system will be beneficial to all by optimizing the garbage collection. The system will prompt a garbage collection at the critical garbage containers. Compared to the conventional system where the garbage collection will follow the fixed schedule even when garbage containers are empty, the Green Bin will save cost, time and man power. 


EXPECTED OUTCOME

The range sensors that are using to identify the garbage container level are connected with Wi-Fi module. This module will allow communication between the monitoring system and the product. The monitoring system will coordinate the garbage collection by producing work order based on the real-time garbage container fill. Compared the conventional garbage management system that are following the schedule even the garbage container is empty which are less effective and yet costly.

            The design of the product itself is a step-up features making the product one step ahead from other products in the market. The container is installed with flagship hopper design keeps waste contained while deterring pest access and preventing waste overflow and wind-blown litter. Therefore, the stray dogs and cats are not capable to access the container. Besides that, even the trash pickers are not accessible to the container. This will also create a cleaner public space as there is no garbage spill in the area.

            This product will be powered by electric power generated from the solar panel which is low in cost and eco-friendly. The solar panel and batteries is choose in order to supply the electric power in order for the product to run efficiently. The solar panel will generate power sufficiently for the product and the power is stored in the 12v battery that is attached to the container.

COMPONENTS 2 - SOLAR PANEL MODULE

The solar panel that will be use is polycrystalline solar panel. Physically, this solar panel has slightly lower heat tolerance than monocrystalline solar panels making it less efficient in generating electric power. In other aspect, polycrystalline price is reasonable compared to monocrystalline. Therefore, considering the budgeting wise, the polycrystalline is the perfect choice for the solar panel that will be used in the product prototype development.

Disadvantages
Ultrasonic sensors must view a high density surface for good results. A soft surface like foam and cloth has low density and absorb the sound waves emitted by the sensor.

Could have false responds for some loud noises such as air hoses
it has a weakness to darker colors such as black
Changes in the environment can affect the response of the sensor (temperature, humidity, pressure, etc.).







The sensor that will be use is Ultrasonic Ranging Sensor (HC SR04). Physically, this sensor has two pins: Trigger and Echo, which used for calculating the distance of the object by generating sound waves and thus calculating the time duration of the echo that generated. This economical sensor provides 2cm to 400cm of non-contact measurement functionality with a ranging accuracy that can reach up to 3mm. Therefore, this sensor is the most suitable sensor to be used in the prototype development.

ESPresso Lite V2.0 is the micro controller that is used  to create IoT based project. It uses the ESP8266 chipset as the main micro controller and supports the Arduino environment. This device contained SOC with integrated TCP/IP protocol stack that can give any micro controller access to Wi-Fi network. It is capable of either hosting an application or offloading all Wi-Fi networking functions from another application processor. It allows the user to simply hook with Arduino device and get about as much Wi-Fi-ability.

The main component in this system is ESPresso Lite. A microcontroller will act as the intermediary device between the sensor and the access point where the data delivers to the monitoring system. This microcontroller also contain Wi-Fi module allowing this system to operate in wireless connection environment.  
i-     Light Emitting Diode installed at the garbage container, there are two colors of LED used. GREEN LED will indicate the bin is in service while RED LED will indicate the bin is out of service.
ii-    Range Sensor that used to measure the fill level is Ultra Sonic sensor where it is most reliable sensor that operate in the dark and yet reasonable in price.
iii-    The Wi-Fi module in the microcontroller will send the data to Router / Access Point (AP) that is place in the area allowing the data transmitted over internet and reaching data management team to collect the real-time data.  

iv-  These entire systems are powered by electricity generated by solar panel that able the garbage bin to self-operate.

WHAT IS INTERNET OF THINGS ?

                 Internet and its applications have become necessities for every human being nowadays. As the tremendous demand, researcher put a lot of effort and hours to invent a technology that capable to communicate beyond computers and web. The research led to the invention of Internet of Things (IoT). IoT refers to the use of Internet Protocol (IP) networks to form a universal network of interconnected computational component. This network will allow the component to communicate with other network to achieve common goal. In other word, the user will be experiencing communication from user - user interaction to device – device interactions these days.

           Most all the daily activities are using internet as the medium. Therefore, the user needs to stay connected to reliable high-speed internet connection. This relation explained as a connection between human and computers-things. The latest technology enable the daily equipment to be controlled and monitored using IoT. For basic understanding about IoT, any daily equipment is install with sensors. The sensor is use to provide the data. Sensor is the most vital element in IoT.  In this video, it will explains how IoT is works. 




DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

This proposed system has been divides into two layers:

This project concentrates on developing a smart garbage container with centralize monitoring system. To achieve all the objectives, the developer needs to have knowledge on the following elements. This product is focusing on the garbage manage system where the garbage bin will be able to notify the management system regarding the bin fill. The bin fill will be measure using range sensor every 30mins interval. In this project, ESPresso Lite will act as the intermediate medium between the sensor and the monitoring system. This micro controller is able to transmit the data through Wi-Fi connection. The notification that received at the monitoring system will be process and a schedule based on the data to route the garbage truck driver for waste disposal.


MOTIVATION

           Walking through the sidewalk nowadays is not enjoyable as it used to be. For an example walking around Kuala Lumpur City Center, we could have seen numbers of dustbin that is not properly managed that causing it to be overflown. It’s a shame for us since we are promoting ‘Visit Malaysia 2016’ abroad, but as soon as the tourist arrived in Malaysia, they could experiencing the overflown dustbin. Moreover due to this unsanitary condition, it will attract flies and stray dog which could make the walkways to feels uncomfortable. Besides, this waste spillage will cause unpleasant smells that could be a bad image to the city.

            The conventional garbage management system is widely use in Malaysia. This system is effective in the past but since the revolution of the technology, the garbage management system should be upgrade. For the past, the garbage is collect following the schedule even though the fill level of the container is below maintenance level whereas there are containers that are overflowing that need the concern. Therefore, it shows the conventional system is less effective and costly.

            Therefore in order to overcome this problem, an idea to propose a project that develop a product that is a breakthrough; one-of-a-kind using the latest technology which is revolutionizing the garbage management system. This product is aims to be used by the district municipal and housing developer, towards the smart city plan that is presented by Prime Minister in Malaysia 11th Plan. On the other hands, this product have a huge potential to be marketed internationally since it offer a lot of beneficial values yet advance in technology
